For those of you that don’t know me, I’m Katherine and I’m a 26 year old American, born and raised in Rochester, New York. I used to just be that person that would go on every cliche family holiday or get away for the weekend with my friends to get wasted. Almost 2 years ago though, my whole life changed when I moved to New Zealand and started travelling extensively, but let’s take it back a bit further.
Rochester will always be home for me. I could live off garbage plates and anything from Wegmans, but I always felt like I was supposed to be someplace else. I made the big change of moving to Orlando, Florida in 2014 to pursue a career with Walt Disney World (trust me there will a post about working at the most chaotic/magical destination on earth) but even that wasn’t enough. After some tough life events, I found myself getting on a plane alone to New Zealand to live and work for a year. It was the scariest thing I’ve ever done but has been the most rewarding.
Since coming to New Zealand, I have opened my eyes to the world around me and want to experience everything it has to offer. I’ve hiked through jungles in Malaysia, been hospitalised in Thailand, eaten the most delicious waffles in Belgium and found love in my wonderful home of New Zealand; all in less than 2 years!
I wanted to start travel blogging to share my experiences with people far and wide as well as with my amazing family and friends (I miss you all!) I get asked all the time how I moved to another country, how I afford to travel so much, if it’s safe where I visit and so on. I think people are afraid to take a leap of faith, I know I was, so my main focus will be on what scares us most when travelling and how we overcome those fears to experience new places and things! Hopefully I can inspire some of you to jump on that plane/car/boat/tuk-tuk and take a risk to explore someplace new.
Wandering this great big earth is my passion and I hope you enjoy the journey with me.
